Lady Starlight, a performance artist, was introduced to Gaga at this period. Gaga was signed to Streamline Records by Vince Herbert in 2007 following a performance during the Lollapalooza Festival 2007. As an apprentice songwriter during an internship at Famous Music Publishing, which was later acquired by Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Gaga was then able to sign a music publishing agreement with Sony/ATV. The company then hired her to compose songs for the support of Britney Spears and her label mates New Kids on the Block and Fergie. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. The debut album of Gaga's in 2008 "The Fame" received only moderate radio reception. Gaga went on tour in Europe as well as the US to promote her album. But it was not until 2009's smash hit 'Just Dance that mainstream attention was paid to her music. Gaga was suffering from a labral tear on her right leg which she was secretly nursing for a few weeks in order to ensure she could continue the tour. She was unable to walk after a show in Toronto and was in severe discomfort. The tour was cancelled.
